And how many a prophet [fought in battle and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost heart due to what befell them in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or give in. And Allah loves those who are steadfast. And their words were not but that they said,
Rabbana ighfir lana thunoobana wa-israfana fee amrina wathabbit aqdamana wansurna ‘ala al qawmi al kafireen
“Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
