Al-A’raf 150-157

And when Musa returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, “How evil is what you have done in my place after [my departure]. Were you impatient over the matter of your Lord?” And he cast down the tablets and seized his brother by [the hair of] his head, dragging him toward him. [Harun] said, “O son of my mother, indeed the people considered me weak and were about to kill me, so let not the enemies rejoice over me and do not place me among the wrongdoing people.” [ Musa ] said,

Rabbi ighfir lee wali-akhee waadkhilna fee rahmatika waanta arhamu arrahimeen

“My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful.”

Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship], wrath from their Lord will reach them, and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood]. But those who committed evil deeds and then repented after that and believed – indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Oft-Forgiving and Most Merciful. And when the anger subsided in Musa , he took up the tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who are fearful of their Lord. And Musa chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said,

Rabbi lawshi/ta ahlaktahum min qablu wa-iyyaya atuhlikuna bima fa’ala assufahao minna in hiya illa fitnatuka tudillu biha man tashao watahdee man tashao anta waliyyuna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru alghafireen

“My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.

Waktub lana fee hathihi ad-dunya hasanatan wafee al-akhirati inna hudna ilayka

And ordain for us good in this world and in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You.”

[Allah] said, “My punishment – I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things.” So I will ordain it for those who fear Me and give zakāh and those who believe in Our ayat. Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in the Tawrat and the Injeel which are with them, who enjoins upon them what is right and prohibits them from what is wrong and makes lawful for them what is pure and forbids them from what is impure and relieves them of their burden and the fetters which were upon them. So they who believe in him, honor him, help him and follow the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful.
