But no one believed Musa , except [some] offspring [youths] among his people, for fear of Fir’awn and their chiefs that they would persecute them. And indeed, Fir’awn was a tyrant in the land, and indeed, he was of the transgressors. And Musa said, “O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him, if you should be Muslims [submitting to Him].” So they said,
‘ala Allahi tawakkalna rabbana la taj’alna fitnatan lilqawmi aththalimeen wanajjina birahmatika mina al qawmi al kafireen
“Upon Allah we put our trust. Our Lord, do not subject us to the trial of the wrongdoing people. And save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people.”
And We inspired to Musa and his brother, “Settle your people in Egypt in houses and make your houses places of worship and establish salat and give good tidings to the mu’mineen.”
And Musa said,
Rabbana innaka atayta fir’awna wamalaahu zeenatan waamwalan fee alhayati ad-dunya rabbana liyudilloo ‘an sabeelika
“Our Lord, indeed You have given Fir’awn and his chiefs splendor and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord, that they may lead [men] astray from Your way.
Rabbana itmis ‘ala amwalihim washdud ‘ala quloobihim falayu’minoo hatta yarawoo al ‘athaba al-aleem
Our Lord, destroy their wealth and harden their hearts so that they will not believe until they see the painful punishment.”
[Allah] said, “Your supplication has been answered.” So remain on a right course and follow not the way of those who do not know.”
